One meet in..

Last Wednesday showed us where we were and what we need to work on. It was just the beginning and we have a long way to go in only a couple of months. This past Saturday, we had the hardest workout yet and many of you hit it and pushed beyond your limits. It was great to see. That is what we will all need to do to put this puzzle together and make this season what we want it to be. It will take all of us doing are part as best as we can to see this through. We have one more solid week of training before our first real test. And it will be a challenge because we will not be at 100% on Varsity. But it will be a good opportunity for some to step up and show everyone what we have on all levels. One more solid week and race season begins. Let’s go after it!

What a great start! As a team, we are doing the right things and we are taking the right steps. The important thing to remember is that all of you, from the newest freshman to the most season veteran, must do your part to make this team and this season great. Do what you know needs to be done for this goal to become a reality. Everyone must individually do what each of you need to do from eating right, getting your sleep, taking your vitamins, icing, and showing up to practice. Because once you are here, you all put it out there on the roads, on the grass, and in the weight room to make yourself better. You all know that together, we are great, but the time in between, when we are each alone, we must each also do what is right to be great too. Running unlike other sports is a life style, not just something you do. So live in the fact that you are part of an elite group that most will never understand. Take pride in the fact that if you take all the right steps and do what needs to be done, you will be part of something that has not happened here in decades. And always remember that you are part of this team, this family, and we will not let each other down. You guys already know that and you trust in what you are doing. You will be great this year. We will be great this year. Believe it. Take pride in who you are and the team you are part of. Be great in everything you do. Leave nothing back so that you can live knowing that you did the best that you could while you were here. No regrets. Gentlemen, we are on our way…

Start the 2008 Season!

Well, here we are. Tomorrow is the start of a new season with a new team and a new bread of runners. I am very excited to see what this team has to offer. I feel we are a better, stronger, more committed team than we have ever been. If we stick together and continue to to believe in each other, I know we can make our goals happen. It will be exciting, fun and difficult but together, I believe we can do anything. I know it, but it is more important that you all know it. If you don’t believe in each other and know that we can do it, it won’t happen. This has been proven year after year. You have to believe in yourselves and believe in what we are building. You are all going to be part of history!

Let’s make it great together. See you all tomorrow.

Hard work will pay off

You guys have seen it already. Those of you who have worked hard this summer have seen how much better you are now than when school got out. Those who pushed themselves last year experienced major improvements. We will be there again this year. We have the enthusiasm, the dedication, the pride, and the heart to see this thing through. It is going to be a long few months but it will go fast once it starts. If we work together, if we focus, and we see this thing through to the end, there is no telling how high we can reach in this new class we are in. I am very excited to get this thing rolling and very soon we will. This is a special group and I can see special things happening but we have to keep doing it together. Being a team is the only way to make it happen. Keep working, do it as a team, stay healthy, stay positive and I’ll see you soon. Excellent work and on a great summer and a successful varsity team trip. It was a lot of fun and we made a lot of progress.

Don’t forget about paperwork. It is important that that stuff gets turned in.

Olympics start today! Don’t forget to watch.

Happy 4th of July

Hope everyone had a great 4th and saw some fireworks. I’ve been having a good time. Lots of food, pleanty of relaxing, and lots of hills on the runs. Hope you all keep up on the running. Be safe, work together and have fun. Don’t forget to schedule a physical if you have’nt gotten one yet. Paperwork is in by July 31 to me or the AD’s office or no practice for you. No practice and no meet. We can’t afford to have anyone sit out for that so make sure it gets done. Varsity, don’t forget about trip money and permission slips by wednesday.

Keep up the great work guys. Keep running and I’ll be seeing you wednesday. Quote of the week will come then so don’t get your runng shorts in a twist!

Monday, Week three

Today we hit a good run. It was a little light on attendance so we will need to work on that. People are stepping up and we are seeing big improvements. Steve had a great run today leading the five miles at a solid pace with Adam. Raf stepped into the varsity run for the first time and ran well keeping up with some of the varsity runners. Solid pack guys! Trent and Raf also made the first afternoon run as well. And then there were 8! We had some great frosh/soph runs today too with a 3-4 miler. Things are looking good. Stay on track.

The start of week 2 showed a lot of progress. We had a great run today with an excellent turnout. The varsity ran hometown 5 and everyone else ran between 4 and 2. The gaps up front are starting to close and our frosh/soph team is showing a lot of potential. Keep up the good work.

We introduced video recording today to get everyone’s form recorded so we can take a look at how we run to help find ways to improve our running. We are not trying to all run the same, we are trying to see if each of us can run better in our own way so that our team can improve.

Today also starts our first afternoon run of the summer. The varsity runners are meeting at 3 to introduce the double run.

First Week of Summer Running

We are into the first week of summer running and we have a good thing started. Today the Varsity runners ran 5 miles at a nice steady pace and some our newer guys ran anywhere from 4 to 2 miles. We’ve got a great group coming out with some strong runners already emerging. We have got to make sure that we get as many people to come out as possible. We get together so that we can become a better TEAM. Not just better runners. The summer is as much about becoming a strong team as it is about becoming better runners. Anyone can go out and run. But not every team can come together and do something special. Remember: consistency and strength together will get us to where we all want to be. Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow. PDT

Fathers’ Day

Hope you all had a restful weekend with your family and free from too much rain. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 7 am to start the summer training season out right. I’m looking forward to it.

Middle of the Week…

With only 5 days until summer camp starts, this is not the time to be sitting around waiting for things to happen. This is a difficult time when you are expected to get the work in, but don’t necessarily have the support of your team. Don’t be afraid to hook up with a teammate to get a run in. Just because we aren’t meeting, doesn’t mean we aren’t still a team. Work together, help each other out and get the work in. It will pay off later and you will thank yourself and your teammates for putting the initial steps in now. Remember, there is no room for regret in this sport. You either prepare now so that you can do your best when the time comes or you don’t and waste time regretting it. The varsity runners should be coming into next week with 25-30 miles of running this week. That is 4-5 miles a day now. Everyone needs to do there part so that the team will be successful.
